This day was a long time coming, as we were waiting for new flagship by OnePlus, OnePlus 6. Today at the OnePlus 6 launch event they announce two products, a wireless earphone and the smartphone itself. Here we will take dive with the smartphone.
The OnePlus 6 comes in a form factor of 155.7×75.4×7.75 mm and weighs 6.2 ounces (177g). The body of this smartphone is made of Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 with different colors like Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White. The display is an Optic AMOLED which accounts for 6.28 inches with a resolution of 2280 x 1080p.
Inside that body is a Qualcomm® Snapdragon 845 (Octa-core, 10nm, up to 2.8 GHz), with AIE (Artificial Intelligence Engine) and GPU used is Adreno 630. There are two options for RAM with 6GB/8GB LPDDR4X and three options for storage with UFS 2.1 2-Lane 64GB/128GB and 256GB. OnePlus also mentioned that Oxygen OS will now prioritize games to get more power from the SoC (System On Chip).
OnePlus has also improved the camera with new sensors and software updates. In the double rear camera setup, the main sensor is a Sony IMX 519 with 16MP and pixel size of 1.22 µm. This sensor now also comes with both Optical (OIS) and Electonic Image Stabilization. The second camera is a Sony IMX 376K sensor with 20MP and 1.0 µm of pixel size. These both sensors have an aperture of f/1.7 and are capable of 4K video at 30/60 fps. The front-facing camera is a Sony IMX 371 sensor with 16MP and 1.0 µm pixel size. It has fixed focus lens with EIS and f/2.0 of an aperture.
Thankfully OnePlus 6 still houses the 3.5mm audio jack. It now hosts a 3300mAh non-removable battery with fast charging capability. Other sensors like Fingerprint, Hall, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity, RGB Ambient Light Sensor, Electronic Compass, Sensor Hub are present. OnePlus also introduced gestures function instead of navigation buttons, which is not much practical as Android P’s navigation gestures. The base price is set to $529.
