HTC has had a pretty bad market with hard fall in the market. But the Taiwan-based company wants to take the risk and still be in the game. This time they are stepping up the game with new HTC U11. HTC U11 comes with new features and design features. First things first no 3.5mm headphone jack.
U11 is an aluminum unibody design with a liquid body finish and you’ll see the color really pop out. It has a body dimension of 153.9 x 75.9 x 7.9 mm (6.06 x 2.99 x 0.31 in) and weighs about 169 g (5.96 oz). It also features two sim option with extra SIM slot which can be also used for expandable storage. With IP67 certification you can take it up 1 meter and 30minutes under water.
This device has a 5.5 inch Super LCD5 capacitive touchscreen which is easily viewable in the direct sunlight. With a resolution of 1440*2560 pixels and nearly 71.4% screen to body ratio, it has a pixel density of 534 PPI which is also good for VR experience. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which will help protect the display from some major falls.
Processor and Storage
HTC U11 will come with Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 processor. It has an Octa-core (4×2.45 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) as CPU and Adreno 540 as GPU. For storage and RAM, there is two variant:
- 64 GB, 4 GB RAM or 128 GB, 6 GB RAM – Global
- 64 GB, 4 GB RAM – USA
For expandable storage, there is two option too
- microSD, up to 256 GB (dedicated slot) – single-SIM model
- microSD, up to 256 GB (uses SIM 2 slot) – dual-SIM model
Now, the camera is where U11 really shines. Its camera achieved 90 in the DxOMark score, which is the highest rating given to a smartphone camera. It is a 12MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture and also has an OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). Other features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama, etc help users to capture the picture as they want to. The video can be recorded with 2160 or simply 4k at 30fps, HDR and features a stereo sound recording too.
The front camera is a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and BSI (Back Illuminated Sensor). It has the feature like HDR Boost, auto selfie, and Live makeup to make selfie experience more personal and unique. It is also capable of shooting Full HD 1080p video at 30fps.
Connectivity and Security
HTC U11 is a 4G LTE enabled smartphone with support for multiple bands of networks. It has Bluetooth 4.2 LE (Low Energy), GPS, NFC to share and connect to other devices immediately and USB 3.1 Type-C with a reversible connector. There is a fingerprint sensor at the front for security purposes.
Battery and Software
The U11 has a Non-removable Li-ion 3000 mAh battery. With a 2560p display, the 3000 mAh might not last the full day but with Quick charge 3.0, you can charge it fully in the just an hour and a half. HTC baked U11 with Android 7.1 and HTC Sense UI. HTC sense UI nowadays feels more like stock android which makes it easy for battery and processor.
HTC U11 will have 5 color options which are Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White and Solar Red. It houses boom speaker at the bottom and at the top of the body. HTC is also introducing a new feature called HTC Edge sense. This feature allows you to squeeze the side of the phone to open the camera, summon personal assistants (Amazon Alexa and Google assistant), etc. You can, of course, change it according to your liking. The feature seems a bit gimmicky but we’ll have to see user’s response. It also ships with USB Type C headphone with active noise cancellation.
